Missouri Senator pushes to enhance elder abuse law

Posted on March 27th, 2012 No Comments

A Missouri Senator is hoping to expand the laws that protect the elderly from abuse situations. The new law will help to protect the elderly from being exploited financially.

The law will make it a crime for someone who is in charge of an elderly person’s financial situation to take advantage of them because of their elderly mental state.

The Republican Senator stated that elderly need more protection than what is currently given to them. The law also states that if a person steals money that was allotted to pay a nursing home, the court can order the person in charge of the money to pay the nursing.

Elderly people need protection from the law because they are at risk of exploitation, you need representation on your side at this time that are committed to helping fight for justice. Contact the St. Louis elderly abuse lawyers of the Finney Law Firm by calling 314-646-0300.

Posted on February 24th, 2012 No Comments

Red Sox pitcher, Bobby Jenks, recently discussed with reporters a serious medical issue that occurred after having surgery in early December.

According to Jenks, he had a surgery scheduled at Masachusetts General Hospital in order to have  bone spurts removed from his spine. Jenks reportedly had four bone spurts on his spine and only two were scheduled to be removed.

During the surgical procedure, one that was not supposed to be touched, was partially removed. This left an incision on his spine that he was unaware of. Two and half weeks later, Jenks began to suffer from serious migraines and on Dec. 30, the pain was so unbearable, he returned to the hospital where he was told the second incision was now infected.

Jenks had to undergo emergency surgery that day. Now, because he has two surgeries on such a sensitive area of the body, Jenks does not know if he will be able to pitch this year. Jenks has also lost 50 pounds due to the ordeal and has been discussing legal action with his representatives.

St. Louis firefighters and disability

Posted on February 20th, 2012 No Comments

St. Louis firefighters may be able to receive disability pension after being injured on the job even if they begin a new job. Nearly one out of every two retired firefighters are in this situation right now because they had to retired due the pension board deciding that they were “totally and permanently incapacitated for duty.”

From 2001 to 2010, a firefighter retired because of disability at an average age of 42. Firefighters are also offered such great disability benefits because they face serious injury on the job and in order to save others they must put their lives on the line and not worry about an injury causing a financial disaster for themselves.

A study was done on this topic and it was found that some firefighters get jobs doing heavy labor once retired and are still receiving pensions. When a pension board determines if a firefighter can continue working they make sure that they can perform every task because there is not “part time” in firefighting.

If you or a loved one has been injured on the job, you need representation on your side. Contact the St. Louis workers’ compensation attorneys of the Finney Law Firm by calling 314-646-0300.
