According to Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near the intersection Fifth Street and Highway 61. The man was traveling on his motorcycle when a car pulled out in front of him.

The two vehicles then collided and resulted in two people being sent to the hospital.  A passenger in the car along with the motorcyclist were both taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital. The  motorcyclist is still recovering from serious injuries.

According to officials, the 44-year-old man fell 40 feet into the tank and was completely submerged in the solution, which was 40 to 70 percent nitric acid. Four rescue workers rescued the man from the vat of acid and have been treated for skin irritation and burns that have been considered minor.

According to police, the woman was the last person in a line of three pedestrians that were crossing the street when she was struck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews and the car that struck her did not ever stop.

According to officials, the accident occurred in the eastbound lane of the highway when a AAA tow truck driver was walking back to his truck after setting up flares on the side of the road and he was struck by a 21-year-old driver.

The 51-year-old man was assisting with an earlier accident when he was struck and was later pronounced dead on the scene by emergency officials as a result of the collision.

The other driver drove away from the scene, but was later stopped by police officials and was taken into custody. He suffered minor injuries and is being treated at the hospital.

According to police, the Marine was shot and killed near the police station after the officer attempted to pull him over for driving erratically. The police officer stated that the Marine attacked him and he shot him while trying to protect himself.

The Marine died of the gunshot wound. The mother of the Marine filed a wrongful death lawsuit, but the police officer asked the lawsuit to be dropped because it was a self-defense issue. A hearing has been set for May.
