A semi-truck driver was killed after a crash occurred on I-44 in Springfield on Tuesday.
According to a Springfield police officer, the accident occurred just before 2 p.m. when a truck was traveling west down the roadway and struck a tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the road. After the truck swerved into the shoulder of the road, the driver over-corrected, which caused him to lose control and sideswipe another vehicle.
The truck then smashed through the guardrail, rolled down the embankment and caught fire. The truck finally came to a stop on its roof at the bottom of the embankment. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene by police officials.
